RMIT University has reaffirmed its position among the top 125 universities globally in the QS World University Rankings 2025, highlighting its continued growth as a globally recognized institution.

In the latest release of the QS World University Rankings, RMIT achieved a global rank of 125 and placed 10th among Australian universities. This continues a remarkable upward trend over the past five years, with RMIT rising nearly 100 places from its 2019 position of 223rd.
🔬 Top 100 in the World for Research Citations per Faculty
For the first time, RMIT entered the global top 100 for research citations per faculty, securing the 96th position. This milestone underscores the University’s increasing impact and influence in high-quality, globally recognised research.
🌍 International Reputation and Faculty Strength
RMIT also improved its standing in the international academic reputation metric, now ranking just outside the top 200 globally. Furthermore, RMIT remains:
- #1 in Australia and
- #45 in the world
for the proportion of international academic staff, reflecting its strength in attracting global talent and fostering a diverse academic community.
“It’s encouraging to see RMIT’s scores for academic reputation and research citations on the rise, particularly in a competitive landscape where many other Australian universities experienced a decline,” said Angel Calderon, RMIT’s Director of Strategic Insights.
While the University saw a slight dip from equal 123rd last year, Mr. Calderon highlighted the overall positive trajectory in global rankings.
🌱 RMIT Recognised for Sustainability in THE Impact Rankings 2025
In a separate achievement, RMIT was ranked 56th globally and 11th in Australia in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, which evaluate university performance against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Despite intense competition, with over 2,300 universities participating and a 20% increase in entrants, RMIT maintained a strong global position.
