NSU School of Humanities and Social Sciences Legal Research

School of Humanities and Social Sciences of North South University (NSU) organized the inaugural session of the ‘SHSS Alumni Discussion Series.’ The series aims to encourage current students to engage in intellectual development and research through alumni.

Event was organized on campus on Thursday (January 23).

Keynote address was delivered by Sayere Najabi Sayem, a former student of the Department of Law and Research Associate at Tanjib Alam & Associates a paper titled “Exploring the Viability of Preprints in the ‘Exclusive’ Domain of Legal Scholarship.” She discussed the potential of preprints in independent legal research. The event was held at the SHSS Dean’s Conference Room at 10:30 am.

Event was moderated by Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed associate professor and chairman of North South University Department of Law. Inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of Law where he highlighted the importance of preprints.

During the presentation of the paper, the speaker said that preprint is a new type of publication format that has gained popularity in various academic fields, but it has not yet gained importance in legal research. He said that the traditional publishing method can limit the spread of independent research. He emphasized its potential in legal research by highlighting the widespread acceptance of preprints in health sciences, mathematics, and engineering.

After the paper presentation, in the question and answer session, the students discussed the inclusion of preprints in legal research. In response to the students’ questions, the speaker said that increasing the acceptance of preprints in legal scholarship is the need of the hour.

In his closing speech, Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam thanked the keynote speaker for his important speech and presented a courtesy memento. Teachers and students of the NSU SHSS department were present at the event.

North South University and Coppin State University Will Work Together

A memorandum of understanding signed between North South University and Coppin State University

North South University held a seminar titled ‘Nanotechnology: Small Things Matter and Have the Power to Transform Energy, Health, and the Environment’ to advance scientific research and innovation. The keynote speaker, Dr. Jamal Uddin, founder of the Center for Nanotechnology and professor at Coppin State University, highlighted the potential of nanotechnology in transforming fields such as medicine, industry, environment and health. The corona vaccine was developed in just 6 to 9 months, demonstrating the rapid advancement of nanotechnology.

The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Hossain Shariar, Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at North South University. The seminar also included a memorandum of understanding signed between North South University and Coppin State University, committing to mutual cooperation to improve education quality. A plan has been made to build a nanotechnology institute at North South University.

East West University Club for Performing Arts Drama Presentation

East West University Club for Performing Arts (ECPA) presented a drama adaptation of Nakshi Kanthar Maath

On January 6th, 2025, East West University Club for Performing Arts (ECPA) presented their self-written drama adaptation of Nakshi Kanthar Maath inspired by Jashimuddin’s poem. Event which included a colorful Pitha Utshob, showcased the beauty of Bangladeshi traditions and the importance of celebrating the nation’s artistic roots. Drama was staged at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium while the Pitha Utshob was held in the campus courtyard.

Event aimed to blend theatrical storytelling with rural traditions of Bangladesh with over 20 vibrant stalls showcasing traditional pithas, handcrafted items and other cultural treasures. Attendees appreciated ECPA’s dedication to promoting Bangladeshi culture through innovative stage plays and captivating performances, highlighting the importance of preserving and celebrating cultural heritage.

Wilfrid Laurier University Campuses and Locations

Wilfrid Laurier University has campuses in Waterloo, Brantford and Milton all located within an hour’s drive or less from Toronto, Canada’s largest city. These campuses are situated on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishnaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples, while the Milton campus is situated on the traditional territory of Mississaugas of the Credit and part of the Nanfan Treaty of 1701.

UIU CSE Fest 2025

UIU CSE Fest 2025

Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at United International University (UIU) has organized “UIU CSE Fest 2025” a two-day contest for inter-college and university students. Event which took place from 17-18 January 2025 featured various segments such as the Blockchain Olympiad, ICT Olympiad, Project Show, Line Following Robot (LFR) and Programming Contest.

Event was presided over by Abul Kashem Mia vice chancellor of UIU. Event attracted 1500 students from 80 universities and 30 colleges in Bangladesh. Winners of the competitions will receive a prize of 1100000 taka. Chief guest Dr. Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan emphasized the importance of working for the welfare of people while supporting human values and technical education. Special guest Shish Haider Chowdhury thanked UIU for organizing the event and announced the ICT Division’s support for such programs.

Event included faculty members, students, officials, academicians, government high officials, ICT experts, journalists and other distinguished guests.

East West University’s Spring Semester 2025 Undergraduate Admission Test Completed

East West University (EWU) has completed its spring semester 2025 undergraduate admission test at Aftabnagar with over 4000 applicants taking part. Event was held in the EWU Main Building and Farashuddin Bhaban Building with special arrangements made for guardians and comfortable seating and light refreshments.

Senior East West University officials, including Vice-Chancellor Shams Rahman and Pro Vice-Chancellor Ashik Mosaddik visited the examination halls to observe the process. Professor Shams Rahman emphasized EWU’s dedication to student care and support. East West University leaders expressed satisfaction with the overall arrangements and praised the efficiency and dedication of the EWU admission committee members, faculty members, officials and staff involved in conducting the test. Southeast University, Bangladesh and Universiti Malaysia Perlis Sign Letter of Intent

Southeast University (SEU) and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

Strategic partnership aims to strengthen collaboration in joint academic programs and research initiatives, leveraging the expertise and resources of UniMAP’s Centre of Excellence for Advanced Computing (CoE AdvComp) and Faculty of Electronic Engineering & Technology (FKTEN) alongside SEU’s capabilities. Australia Awards Scholarships for Study in 2026 for Bangladesh

Australia Awards Scholarships for study commencing in 2026 will open on 1 February 2025 and applicants are encouraged to check their eligibility before starting the application process. To be eligible, applicants must meet certain English language proficiency standards, with results valid as of 1 January 2026. These standards include an IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0, a TOEFL internet-based test (iBT) score of at least 84, or a PTE Academic overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50.

Women, people with disabilities, and those from ethnic minorities are permitted to submit an overall IELTS score of at least 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 (or equivalent TOEFL or PTE score). However, if selected for the scholarship, they must meet the English language admission requirement of the relevant Australian institution.

English language testing can be expensive, so proper preparation is key to successfully submitting your application. Independent University, Bangladesh Center for Industrial Automation Robotics & Internet of Things and Taan-Raat Institute Collaboration

6th RIoT National Creative Challenge organized by Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Center for Industrial Automation Robotics & Internet of Things and the Taan-Raat Institute of Bangladesh, attracted over 1,100 students from 80 schools and colleges to compete across 12 categories. Event was attended by Sharmeen S. Murshid, adviser to the ministries of social welfare and women and children affairs, Didar A. Husain, chairman of IUB board of trust, VC M. Tamim and Antu Kareem, managing director of Pentagon Industries Limited and advisor to the Taan-Raat Institute of Bangladesh.

Ceremony highlighted the importance of critical thinking and innovation in shaping Bangladesh’s future, encouraging participants to overcome fears and pursue bold ideas. Event also highlighted the need for science and technology for global representation and the development of solutions relevant to Bangladesh’s unique challenges.

Participants competed in various categories, including robotics, IT, programming, mechanical innovation, science and digital poster design. Lia Khan from Uttara High School and College became the champion in Mathematics, while Jashnuva Iffat Alam from Uttara Girls High School and College won in Biology. Jisan Uddin Jihad and Anika Islam from Nawab Habibullah Model School and College secured top positions in Chemistry and Physics.

Event was facilitated by Dr. Mohammad Faisal Uddin, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, and Dr. Sadia Binte Alam, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The event concluded with enthusiastic participation, offering young minds a platform to explore ideas, demonstrate skills, and engage with science and technology for a brighter future.
