The ranking includes approximately 1800 universities worldwide.
Canada’s University of Toronto is the world’s best university.
Daffodil International University ranks first in Bangladesh, with 690th place in world ranking.
No other private university in Bangladesh is included in the 1000-place list.
In Bangladesh North South University ranks second, with East West University, America International University, and Brac University ranking third, fourth and fifth respectively.
The overall quality of the university is determined by three indicators: environmental impact, social impact, and governance impact.
BELTA-NSU International Conference and the 11th BELTA International Conference were held on December 6 and 7 at North South University. Event aimed to discuss the changes in English language education in the context of global changes and provide participants with necessary knowledge and skills to address these demands. Keynote speakers included Martin Lamb, Academic Lead and Tesolor Senior Lecturer, School of Education, University of Leeds, UK; Professor Samsad Mortuza of Brac University Institute of Languages; Shayla Sultana, Journal Manager of the Institute of Population and Social Research of Mahidol University; and English Language Specialist Professor David D. Perodin.
Prominent scholars and experts discussed important issues in English language education, such as translanguaging, multilingual teaching strategies, and professional development. Panel discussions focused on the prospects and challenges of Open-Ended Business Education (OBE), pathways for promoting sustainable partnerships, and a Belta titled “Perspective on the Feature of English in the Global South.” The conference also organized poster presentations and workshops on integrating digital learning resources into English language classrooms, social emotional learning (SEL), and promoting values and ethics in primary and secondary classrooms.
Organized by British Council event provided a unique opportunity for teachers, researchers, and policymakers to connect, discuss, and foster collaboration. British Council Bangladesh Country Director Stephen Forbes expressed the organization’s commitment to strengthening knowledge exchange and global cooperation in English language education. British Council Bangladesh Business Development Director Sarwat Reza presented on various assessment tests based on English language proficiency and educational qualifications. British Council Senior Academic Manager Imran Saifur presented the findings of a recent study titled “Being a Teacher with Disabilities: Perspectives, Practices, and Opportunities,” conducted in collaboration with the University of Cambridge.
Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori, the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, visited the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) campus on December 8, 2024. He expressed gratitude for AIUB’s excellent organization of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) and discussed potential collaborations with Japanese universities and strengthening AIUB’s ties with Japanese industries.
Japanese Embassy in Bangladesh was emphasized as a bridge for collaboration with Japanese companies, aiming to create job opportunities for AIUB graduates, particularly in the IT field. Delegation included Khondokar Sabbir Kabir, Director of Finance, and Md. Taufiqul Islam, Professor (on leave), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Nadia Anwar, AIUB’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, expressed her appreciation for the ambassador’s visit and the university’s dedication to fostering international partnerships and opening pathways for students and graduates to explore global opportunities in education and careers, particularly in the dynamic IT sector.
North South University’s Pharmaceutical Sciences Department held a seminar on “Innovations in Drug Discovery: From Cancer to Infectious Diseases” on 5 December 2024. Dr. Khondoker Miraz Rahman, a professor at King’s College London’s School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Antimicrobial Research Theme lead at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, was the keynote speaker. He is the director of the Doctoral Training Program in the Industrial Case Training Program and has supervised over 35 international PhD students.
Dr. Miraz highlighted the need for innovative approaches in dealing with cancerous and infectious diseases, emphasized the importance of developing drugs that are not toxic for the body and do not interfere with cardiac health, and debunked myths about efflux pumps in antimicrobial drug formulation. Professor Dr. Mohammad Hossain Shahriar, chairman of NSU’s Pharmaceutical Department, also highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry.
School of Law of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) held the inaugural Intra-School Set Speech Competition on November 14 and 19, 2024. Asfi Fatima emerged as the champion, followed by Farhana Kamal Jame as the first runner-up and Lokman Shariar as the second runner-up.
Competition involved 25 participants who presented speeches on judicial independence in Bangladesh. The top 10 participants advanced to the final round, where the Acting Vice Chancellor of IUB, Khandker Md. Iftekhar Haider, attended the presentation. The event was coordinated by Anisur Rahman, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Law of IUB, and the final round was judged by Assaduzzaman Khan, PhD, Professor in the Department of Law, Md Jahid Hossain Bhuiyan, PhD, Professor, and Hassan Faruk Al Imran, PhD, Associate Professor. The judges assessed the speeches based on participants’ analytical depth, articulation, and engagement with the theme.
North South University (NSU) will hold its 25th Convocation on 7 December 2024 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Dhaka. Over 8,000 graduates will be awarded their degrees.
Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud will preside over the event, conferring degrees on behalf of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. 20 graduates will receive Chancellor’s Gold Medals and Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medals.
UN Resident Coordinator for Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis will be the convocation speaker, and Prof. Md Mamun Molla will present the opening remarks.

Department of Architecture at North South University (NSU) hosted the Thesis Project Exhibition & Book Launch for Spring 2024 from December 2 to 4, 2024.
Event showcased the thesis projects of Spring 2024 architecture students, under the mentorship of Ar. Mujtaba Ahsan and Ar. A K M Saleh Ahmed Anik. The event also featured the launch of the Thesis Book Spring 2024, a publication that showcased the students’ diverse and imaginative works. Event was attended by Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, Prof. Md. Rafiq Azam, and Shazzad Hosain, Dean of SEPS.
Department of Pharmacy at East West University (EWU) has organized a two-day ‘Pharma Carnival 2024’ on December 3-4, 2024, in Dhaka. Event aims to bring together industry professionals, academics, students, and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector to celebrate innovation, knowledge, and solidarity.
Inaugural session was attended by Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the high representative on the Rohingya crisis and priority issues affairs to the chief adviser of the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. Event also featured Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, as the guest of honor. Other distinguished speakers included Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice Chancellor of EWU, and Amirul Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy at EWU. Carnival features a vibrant exhibition with 37 organizations, including leading pharmaceutical companies, educational institutions, and cosmetic companies, showcasing their latest products and innovations.
United International University (UIU), a leading private university in Bangladesh, has launched its Research & Innovation (R&I) week at its Innovation Hub. Event attended by internationally acclaimed researchers and senior faculties, featured Princeton University Professor M. Zahid Hasan, a renowned physicist and fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Hasan has written over 280 peer-reviewed journal articles and is the most cited experimenter in research areas such as the search and discovery of novel phases of matter, emergent new particles, and quantum effects. He has worked at Stanford’s SLAC National Accelerator and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and has received the American Competitiveness & Innovation Fellowship for leadership in the field of physics.
Program also featured Md. Abul Kashem Mia, PhD, Vice-Chancellor of UIU, Professor Emeritus M. Rezwan Khan, Director of IAR, UIU, and Chairman of Power Grid, Bangladesh. The R&I week aims to inspire students to have a research-driven mindset and innovate for the betterment of the economy.
American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) hosted a lively Freshers’ Day on November 19, 2024, to welcome the BBA freshmen of the Fall 2024-2025 Semester. The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, department heads, faculty members, and enthusiastic new students. Dr. Rezbin Nahar, Director of the BBA Program, delivered a welcome speech, followed by remarks from Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor. Dr. Ziarat H. Khan, Deputy Director of the Office of Student Affairs, provided practical insights on campus life. Mr. Al Asif Khan, an AIUB alumnus and brand and channel development manager at Dan Cake, shared motivational words to encourage the freshmen.
Event then transitioned to an engaging cultural segment featuring performances by current students and members of the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC). Performers included Ms. Nazneen Akter, Ms. Ananna Podder, and Ms. Sayeeda Alam. The cultural segment concluded with a vibrant performance by APAC members, mentored by Soumendra Sankar Das, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing. The program was coordinated by Bohi Shajahan, Head of the Department of Finance, and hosted by faculty members Jubair Suhan and Tasnia Shahrin Khan.
