Department of Pharmacy at East West University (EWU) has organized a two-day ‘Pharma Carnival 2024’ on December 3-4, 2024, in Dhaka. Event aims to bring together industry professionals, academics, students, and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector to celebrate innovation, knowledge, and solidarity.

Inaugural session was attended by Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the high representative on the Rohingya crisis and priority issues affairs to the chief adviser of the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. Event also featured Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU, as the guest of honor. Other distinguished speakers included Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice Chancellor of EWU, and Amirul Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy at EWU. Carnival features a vibrant exhibition with 37 organizations, including leading pharmaceutical companies, educational institutions, and cosmetic companies, showcasing their latest products and innovations.

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) hosted a lively Freshers’ Day on November 19, 2024, to welcome the BBA freshmen of the Fall 2024-2025 Semester. The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, department heads, faculty members, and enthusiastic new students. Dr. Rezbin Nahar, Director of the BBA Program, delivered a welcome speech, followed by remarks from Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor. Dr. Ziarat H. Khan, Deputy Director of the Office of Student Affairs, provided practical insights on campus life. Mr. Al Asif Khan, an AIUB alumnus and brand and channel development manager at Dan Cake, shared motivational words to encourage the freshmen.

Event then transitioned to an engaging cultural segment featuring performances by current students and members of the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC). Performers included Ms. Nazneen Akter, Ms. Ananna Podder, and Ms. Sayeeda Alam. The cultural segment concluded with a vibrant performance by APAC members, mentored by Soumendra Sankar Das, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing. The program was coordinated by Bohi Shajahan, Head of the Department of Finance, and hosted by faculty members Jubair Suhan and Tasnia Shahrin Khan.

A five-member student team from Brac University has been declared champions of an inter-university competition at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) focusing on social and environmental issues.

Team consisting of students from the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Law School, and the School of Law, aimed to create a comprehensive cyber health ecosystem to combat cyber threats and promote digital well-being in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being). The team collaborated with schools and educational institutions to raise awareness, provide practical guidance, and empower individuals to protect themselves in the digital age. The team was awarded Tk 30,000 in prize money at the final ceremony.

Competition involved over 100 students from North South University and other renowned institutions.

Brac University Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program requires a minimum GPA/Grade of 3.5 in SSC/Equivalent and HSC/Equivalent separately, and 2.5 in O-Level and A-Level separately. E grades will not be considered. Candidates with a minimum DP score of 24 and 12 years of schooling from a reputed educational institution may apply. GED is not acceptable. Candidates who completed schooling outside Bangladesh must submit verified/attested copies of previous academic documents and equivalence certificates from the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka.

Credit transfer from an educational institution following a system similar to Brac University may be considered after passing the admission test. Candidates must apply with required documents and the decision on such cases will be determined by Brac University’s credit transfer policy.

All eligible candidates must sit for a written admission test on the English Composition and English MCQ sections of the program. Candidates who qualify in the pre-university written tests will be called for an interview for final selection. It is the applicant’s responsibility to check eligibility criteria before applying.

NSU Undergraduate Law Symposium Summer 2024, organized by the Department of Law at North South University, celebrated the academic contributions of young legal minds from 30 universities.

Event saw the highest number of submissions, with nearly 70 students from 30 universities submitting their papers. 13 were shortlisted for presentation. Judges Dr. Liton Chandra Biswas, Nadia Rahaman, and Md. Johir Uddin Shohag attended the symposium. Mobasshira Tabassum Rahi, a North South University student, became the symposium’s champion.

Durdana Chowdhury and Upama Sharma won the prizes for 1st and 2nd runner-up, respectively. The Vice Chancellor of NSU, Professor Abdul Hannan, graced the prize-giving ceremony, along with Professor Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Chair of the Department of Law. Professor Hannan emphasized the need for good lawyers in Bangladesh to bring about dynamic growth in the legal arena and how organizing such symposiums aids in creating well-researched and competent future lawyers.

Brac Institute of Languages (BIL) has launched its three-day international conference, “Language Metamorphosis: Implications for Language Education in Decolonial Contexts” (LMLEDC), at Brac University. The conference aims to explore the transformative impacts of colonial legacies on language education and their global influence on teaching methodologies and learning practices. Over 300 scholars, language practitioners, and students from Bangladesh and abroad have gathered to discuss themes such as multilingual education, language policy, linguistic diversity, and decolonial approaches to education.

Event was graced by Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, adviser to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, and guest of honor Dr. Salimullah Khan from the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. Prominent attendees included Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, Syed Mahfuzul Aziz, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Brac University, Mohammad Ashaduzzaman, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at Brac University, Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, Advisor and Founder of Brac Institute of Languages, and Dr. Shaila Sultana, Director of BIL.

Keynote speakers included globally renowned academics like Professor Suresh Canagarajah from Pennsylvania State University, Professor Stephen May from the University of Auckland, and Professor Sender Dovchin from Curtin University. Three others joined virtually: Professor Sirpa Leppänen from the University of Jyväskylä, Professor Emeritus Robert Phillipson from Copenhagen Business School, and Professor Alastair Pennycook from the University of Technology Sydney.

Conference reflects Brac University’s commitment to addressing linguistic challenges and fostering impactful dialogue in language education.

The Human Resources Club at North South University (NSU) organized “Bengal Tea Presents HR Calibration 4.0,” marking the culmination of the nation’s largest inter-university business case competition focused on human resources. Event which spanned a month and a half, saw participation from 32 universities, with seven teams reaching the finals. Main objective was to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry demands in human resources, as teams tackled issues such as mental health awareness and parental leave policies while solving HR-related business cases.

Event was graced by prominent figures, including NSU Vice Chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, who emphasized the significance of HR in Bangladesh’s corporate sector. Special guests included Dr. AKM Waresul Karim, Dean of the School of Business and Economics at NSU, and Sajjad Sarwar, General Manager of Tea Operations at Bengal Tea City Group.

Tasnim Tarannum, Faculty Advisor of the NSU HR Club, inaugurated the final event, where finalist teams presented their cases in 25-minute slots. The judges shared valuable insights and discussions centered on the role of HR in fostering a supportive work environment. Sheikh Rishad Ul Arab, President of the NSU HR Club, highlighted that Gen Z employees prioritize workplace culture, mental well-being, and employee care over salaries.

HR Calibration 4.0 offered participants a transformative experience, facilitating leadership, teamwork, and innovative problem-solving skills, providing invaluable real-world HR insights, equipping them for successful careers.
