
Dhaka, May 24, 2025 — East West University (EWU) celebrated its 1st Research Day 2025 at its Aftabnagar campus to foster a culture of innovation, research excellence and academic-industry collaboration in Bangladesh.
A Step Toward National Development Through Research
The event kicked off with an inaugural session led by EWU Vice Chancellor, who welcomed participants and emphasized the role of research in shaping a knowledge-based economy. Chief guest Shelley A. Mubdi member of the EWU board of trustees offered valuable insights. This session was chaired by founding vice chancellor and chairperson of the board of trustees, EWU who reiterated the university’s dedication to research and innovation.
Panel Discussions on Research and Innovation
Two key panel discussions addressed national priorities:
- “Importance of Research in Transforming Bangladesh into an Innovative Nation” – This session explored how strategic research initiatives can position Bangladesh as a global innovation hub.
- “Importance of Academia-Industry Collaborative Research: Opportunities and Challenges” – This discussion highlighted the need for partnerships between universities and industries to solve real-world problems.
Prominent participants included Professor Haseena Khan, Dr. Rashidul Haque, Dr. A.K.M. Masud along with industry leaders Humaira Azam, Firoze Mohammad and Shihab Ahmad.
Showcasing Student and Faculty Research
The “Three-Minute Presentation” segment allowed students and faculty from departments such as Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Pharmacy and Social Relations to share their ongoing research in an engaging format across various lecture galleries.
Recognizing Research Excellence
A total of 72 researchers were awarded with crests and certificates during a closing award ceremony at the EWU Manzur Elahi Auditorium. The highlight was the “Lifetime Achievement Award”, presented to Dr. Md. Mozammel Huq Azad Khan of the CSE Department for his outstanding contributions to research and innovation.
A Commitment to a Research-Driven Future
The event concluded with a group photo session and a vote of thanks from pro vice chancellor of EWU, who commended everyone’s effort in making the university’s first-ever Research Day a grand success.
