Bangladeshi Scholar Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju Presents Diaspora Research at International Conference in Paris
Published: 17 May 2025
A leading Bangladeshi academic and Professor of Media and Communication at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju presented groundbreaking research on the Bangladeshi diaspora at a prestigious international conference held in Paris, France from May 13–16, 2025.
The conference, titled “Narrative Matters 2025: Disparate Narrative Worlds—Crisis, Conflict and the Possibility of Hope” was jointly organized by The American University of Paris and Université Paris Cité. It brought together global scholars to explore the role of narrative in addressing contemporary crises and cultural transformations.
Dr. Raju’s paper titled “Narrativization and Construction of ‘Bangladesh’ in Pacific Diasporas of Japan and Australia,” focused on the identity formation and cultural memory within Bangladeshi communities living in Japan and Australia. His research examined how transnational narratives shape the way these communities represent their Bangladeshi heritage while adapting to new socio-cultural contexts.
As the Director of the King Sejong Institute at IUB and a recognized expert in media and diaspora studies, Dr. Raju continues to contribute to international scholarship through his research on South Asian identity, migration, and cultural discourse.
This presentation positions Bangladeshi academia prominently on the global stage and reinforces the importance of examining diasporic narratives in an increasingly interconnected world.
