NSU hosts IELTS Scholarship Award Ceremony

North South University’s (NSU) Office of External Affairs hosted the IELTS Scholarship Award Ceremony on 25 August 2025 at its Dhaka campus, celebrating the achievements of outstanding students in English proficiency.

This year’s IELTS scholarship was awarded to Syeda Fatema Rahman, who was recognized for her remarkable accomplishment in English proficiency. In her remarks, Fatema shared that her IELTS preparation was instrumental in securing admission to the prestigious University of Chicago.

Ceremony was attended by Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury vice chancellor of NSU, who presented the award and highlighted the importance of English proficiency in today’s global education landscape.

Maxim Raimann exams director of the British Council Bangladesh also attended the event. He praised the strong collaboration between NSU and the British Council in fostering international opportunities for students. Raimann further noted that initiatives like the IELTS scholarship encourage students to aim higher and reflect the transformative impact of quality English language education.

Scholarship carries a cash prize of Tk 25,000.

North South University Department of Law Hosts Lecture on U.S. Legal Research and Comparative Law

As part of its ongoing Certificate Course on Legal Research, the Department of Law at North South University (NSU) recently hosted a guest lecture by Julienne Grant, Instructor and Reference Librarian at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Law.

Grant delivered an engaging and informative session titled “Legal Research on U.S. Law and Comparative Legal Research”, offering valuable insights into research methodologies, U.S. legal databases and strategies for comparative legal analysis.

Event was part of NSU Law’s commitment to providing high-quality legal education and practical skills in international and comparative legal research. We extend our sincere thanks to Grant for her contribution to this academic initiative.

Department of Civil Engineering at United International University Held a Seminar on Biomechanics of Mental Health

The Department of Civil Engineering at United International University (UIU) held a seminar on “Biomechanics of Mental Health” on December 24, 2024. The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Md. Taher Abu Saif from the University of Illinois, USA.

Event was presided over by UIU Professor Emeritus M. Rezwan Khan and other distinguished guests included Hasan Sarwar dean of the School of Science and Engineering at UIU and Md Mujibur Rahman Department of Civil Engineering and director CSIRS-UIU. Dr. Taher shared his research experience in the US and expressed optimism about establishing a microelectronics lab for higher research in Bangladesh. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining brain cell functionality even after age 65 through proper exercise, walking, and hard work.

Event was attended by UIU faculty members, students, officials, academicians, government high officials, researchers, journalists and other distinguished guests.
