6th RIoT National Creative Challenge organized by Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Center for Industrial Automation Robotics & Internet of Things and the Taan-Raat Institute of Bangladesh, attracted over 1,100 students from 80 schools and colleges to compete across 12 categories. Event was attended by Sharmeen S. Murshid, adviser to the ministries of social welfare and women and children affairs, Didar A. Husain, chairman of IUB board of trust, VC M. Tamim and Antu Kareem, managing director of Pentagon Industries Limited and advisor to the Taan-Raat Institute of Bangladesh.

Ceremony highlighted the importance of critical thinking and innovation in shaping Bangladesh’s future, encouraging participants to overcome fears and pursue bold ideas. Event also highlighted the need for science and technology for global representation and the development of solutions relevant to Bangladesh’s unique challenges.

Participants competed in various categories, including robotics, IT, programming, mechanical innovation, science and digital poster design. Lia Khan from Uttara High School and College became the champion in Mathematics, while Jashnuva Iffat Alam from Uttara Girls High School and College won in Biology. Jisan Uddin Jihad and Anika Islam from Nawab Habibullah Model School and College secured top positions in Chemistry and Physics.

Event was facilitated by Dr. Mohammad Faisal Uddin, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, and Dr. Sadia Binte Alam, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The event concluded with enthusiastic participation, offering young minds a platform to explore ideas, demonstrate skills, and engage with science and technology for a brighter future.

School of Business and Economics at United International University (UIU) organized the 2nd nationwide inter-university research competition “Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS) 2024” on January 13, 2025. Event which took place at the UIU Campus in Dhaka aimed to promote research culture among undergraduate students, particularly in business education. Competition was divided into three domains with top 10 teams invited to present their research papers. All participants received certificates and gift packs with six winners emerging from the competition.

Best research paper in each domain was awarded BDT 1,00,000 as the first prize, followed by BDT 60,000 for the first runner-up and BDT 40,000 for the second runner-up. The winners were as follows:

Chief guest Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized the significance of research in national progress and encouraged students to engage in research during their university years. Event was attended by faculty members, students, officials, academicians, government representatives, researchers, journalists and other distinguished guests; making it a resounding success.

On 25th December 2024, the International and Scholarship Office (ISO) of Brac University organized a Christmas Day celebration at both male and female hostels. Event fostered unity, cultural exchange and festive cheer by bringing together international and local students as well as distinguished university officials. The day began with a festive atmosphere featuring special meals and traditional dishes prepared by international students. The evening was filled with excitement as students joined Dr. David Dowland registrar of Brac University and Saiduzzaman Shikder head of ISO for fun games and activities.

Cultural showcase was a highlight with international students singing, dancing and sharing their traditions. Event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony for game winners and a cake-cutting celebration with attendees enjoying chocolates and sweets.

East West University (EWU) has awarded 219 students the Merit Scholarship Award for their outstanding academic performance, with most being female students. Ceremony took place on January 12, 2025 at the EWU Manzur Elahi Auditorium in Dhaka.

Chief guest was an EWU Board of Trustees member Farooque B. Chaudhury, while vice chancellor Shams Rahman presided over the ceremony as the program chair. Chaudhury congratulated the scholarship recipients and emphasized the importance of academic excellence. Rahman emphasized EWU’s commitment to a supportive academic environment and emphasized the hard work and perseverance of the students, particularly the female recipients. Event was attended by several dignitaries, including East West University pro vice chancellor Ashik Mosaddik.

North South University (NSU) has held its 2025 spring semester orientation program, aimed at familiarizing freshers with the university’s culture and academic approach. 69 students were awarded scholarships, including 100 percent merit scholarships for 21 students who performed exceptionally in the Bachelor’s (Honors) admission test.

Session was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Abdul Hannan Choudhury, who emphasized the NSU’s commitment to transforming students into successful graduates. Deans of the schools introduced their respective schools and VC emphasized the North South University’s mission to produce graduates who excel academically, care deeply about national issues and contribute meaningfully to society.

Orientation program concluded with a cultural performance by North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS) members.

North South University (NSU) has crowned Zarin Mahmood as the first Bangladeshi Canadian and NSU graduate to win the prestigious Miss North America World 2024-2025 award. The pageant organized by Mrs. Canada Inc. to celebrates diversity, empowerment and advocacy for women globally. Zarin’s victory reflects her commitment to addressing social issues, particularly women’s empowerment, diversity and inclusion.

Currently residing in Vancouver, Canada Zarin works in the IT sector for a Canadian government organization. She credits her transformative experiences at NSU with shaping her path from the classroom to the global stage. Zarin’s academic journey began at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka, Bangladesh and she pursued her undergraduate studies in business administration at NSU, where she honed her leadership, critical thinking, and innovative skills.

Zarin expressed her gratitude to NSU for its rigorous academic curriculum, diverse campus environment, and numerous extracurricular opportunities for building her confidence, leadership abilities, and passion for advocacy. She hopes her pageant journey will inspire current students to embrace their potential and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

North South University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Zarin Mahmood for her outstanding achievement and celebrates her as a global ambassador of the NSU’s legacy.

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has won the championship trophies in both men’s and women’s doubles categories in the SMC+ East West Winter Smash Badminton Competition. The IUB team competed against over 40 universities, securing final spots in four out of six events. Tipu Sultan and Ashfak Bin Ferdous won the Men’s Doubles title with a 2-0 margin against Hazi Misir Ali College in the final. They defeated teams from Brac University and Southeast University in straight sets. In the Women’s Doubles category, Tasnim Noor and Kazi Kayanat Soha defeated Team East West University 3 in the final with a 2-0 margin. Ashfak finished as the runner-up in Men’s Singles after a closely contested 2-1 match against Daffodil International University in the final. He advanced through the group stage with straight-set victories over European University and Team North South University 1. In Mixed Doubles, Tipu Sultan and Tasnim finished as runners-up after a 2-0 loss to Daffodil International University in the final.

Competition was organized by East West University in collaboration with the Bangladesh Badminton Federation and supported by the Division of Student Activities (DoSA) of Independent University, Bangladesh.
