
North South University (NSU) one of Bangladesh’s leading private universities marked a significant academic milestone with the official inauguration of the NSU Writing Center held at the Central Library.
Designed to support both undergraduate and graduate students, the NSU Writing Center aims to enhance academic and professional writing skills through individualized guidance and peer tutoring.
Dignitaries Celebrate the Launch
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests and university leaders, including:
- Azim Uddin Ahmed – Chairman, Board of Trustees (Chief Guest)
- Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury – Vice-Chancellor
- Prof. Abdur Rob Khan – Treasurer & Pro-Vice Chancellor (In-Charge)
- Prof. Md Rizwanul Islam – Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Dr. Nazia Manzoor – Chair, Department of English and Modern Languages
- Dr. Sukanto Roy – Coordinator, NSU Writing Center
Faculty members and students from various departments also attended the event, underscoring the center’s significance across disciplines.
A Dream Realized After a Decade
The ceremony began with a ribbon-cutting, followed by welcome remarks from Dr. Sukanto Roy, who reflected on the long journey to establish the center.
“We have been trying to establish a Writing Center at NSU since 2012. So, it’s about a decade. It’s like a dream come true for us,” said Dr. Roy.
Dr. Nazia Manzoor emphasized the broader academic and professional value of writing:
“The Writing Center is for our students, for aspiring writers, and for the potential they all have in terms of the kind of writer they can become.”
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury highlighted the need for a structured approach to writing at NSU:
“If you do not read, you will not be able to write creatively,” he said, while commending the Department of English for spearheading the initiative.
