American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) offers a comprehensive range of scholarships and tuition fee waivers to support academically outstanding and financially deserving students. This policy bridges the gap between tuition costs and student resources, ensuring access to higher education for all.
📌 Overview of Financial Support at AIUB
AIUB provides two major categories of financial assistance:
- Scholarships (Tuition Fee Waiver Only)
- Financial Aid & Tuition Waivers (Need-Based & Special Categories)
Each student may receive only one type of scholarship or aid, based on the highest qualifying category.
🏅 Types of Scholarships Offered at AIUB
🎓 1. Merit-Based Scholarships for Freshman Students
Eligibility Criteria:
- GPA 5.00 (Golden) in both SSC and HSC
- O-Level: 5 A’s (in one sitting) and A-Level: 2 A’s (in one sitting); no grade below B
- Must pass the AIUB Scholarship Exam
Note: Scholarship awards depend on available slots and exam performance.
🎓 2. Academic Scholarships for Regular Students
Eligibility Criteria:
- Completed at least two regular semesters
- CGPA 3.75 or higher
- Minimum academic load per semester:
- Undergraduate: 15 credits
- Graduate (except EMBA): 12 credits
- EMBA: 4 courses
- No grades below B/B+, failures, retakes, or disciplinary actions
👩🎓 3. Dr. Anwarul Abedin Scholarship (Female Undergraduate Students)
A full tuition waiver (100%) awarded each regular semester to one female student per faculty.
Eligibility:
- CGPA 3.80+
- No grade below B+
- Active club member with extracurricular involvement
- No prior scholarships, good moral character, and disciplinary clearance
📘 4. Hasna Abedin Scholarship (Proposed – Postgraduate Students)
Honoring the co-founder, this scholarship offers a full tuition waiver (100%) to one postgraduate student per faculty.
Eligibility:
- CGPA 3.80+
- Active research or community involvement
- Regular load (12 credits), no breaks, and no existing scholarship
🏆 5. Extracurricular Scholarships
a. National Talent Scholarships
Awarded to students with national-level achievements, validated by relevant authorities or MOU clauses.
b. Sports Scholarships
Granted to athletes contributing to AIUB’s teams. Waiver percentage depends on performance and financial need.
c. Club Scholarships
For students active in AIUB clubs for at least 1 year, contributing significantly to events and activities.
♿ 6. Scholarships for Students with Disabilities
Awarded to students with certified disabilities as per the Bangladesh Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act 2013.
Requirements:
- Full-time enrollment
- Supporting documents and minimum academic standards
- Application each semester
🌍 7. Scholarships for Underrepresented Groups
For students from ethnic minorities, 3rd gender, low-income families, refugees, or non-traditional academic backgrounds.
Conditions:
- Proof of group status
- Minimum GPA and full-time enrollment
- Case-by-case assessment
💸 AIUB Financial Aid & Tuition Fee Waivers
1. Need-Based Tuition Fee Waiver
Eligibility:
- Completed 2 regular semesters
- CGPA 3.50+
- Minimum full-time academic load
- No academic or disciplinary issues
- Viva interview required
Valid for one semester only.
2. Freedom Fighter Tuition Waiver
Eligibility:
- Passed admission & Freedom Fighter exams
- Valid government documents
- CGPA 3.50+, full course load
- One semester coverage
3. Alumni Tuition Fee Waiver
Eligibility:
- Alumni enrolled in a new AIUB program
- CGPA 3.50+, regular load
- Good academic and disciplinary record
4. Corporate Tuition Fee Waiver (Postgraduate Students Only)
Applicable to students working in recognized public/private organizations.
Requirements:
- Proof of employment (updated each semester)
- Minimum 12 credits (or 4 EMBA courses)
- Subject to MOU agreements or committee approval
5. MPH Program – Female Waiver
A 35% tuition fee waiver for all female students enrolled in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program.
6. Sibling Waiver
Siblings enrolled in the same semester may receive a partial waiver. Applies as long as both are active students.
7. AIUB Employee & Dependent Waivers
- Employees (after 1 year of service) receive tuition waivers based on tenure.
- Direct family members also qualify after 1 year.
💼 On-Campus Jobs & Volunteer Opportunities
✅ On-Campus Jobs
Part-time job openings are posted by departments. These roles offer students a chance to earn while gaining experience.
✅ Volunteer Scheme
Managed by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). Selected students assist in events and may receive daily allowances for select engagements.
🔁 Renewal Guidelines
To renew a scholarship or financial aid, students must:
- Maintain a CGPA of 3.75+ (unless otherwise stated)
- Carry the required academic load
- Avoid failures, retakes, withdrawals, or disciplinary actions
- Maintain 80%+ attendance
📊 Government Compliance
In accordance with the Private University Act, AIUB ensures:
- At least 6% of students receive full scholarships
- 3% must be from the Freedom Fighter category
- The remaining 3% from other categories
